Máxima Acuña de Chaupe
Chaupe, born around 1970 in Sorocucho, is a smallholder and stands as a symbolic figure of the resistance against megamining in Peru. In 2016, she received the Goldman Environmental Prize. A documentary film was made about the life and activism of Máxima Acuña: “Máxima”, directed by Claudia Sparrow, Peru USA 2019. Acuña lives with her family in the highlands of Cajamarca.
