Kossi Efoui

Kossi Efoui, born 1962 in Anfoin, Togo, is an author. He studied philosophy at the Université de Lomé and took part in student protests against the former Togo administration in the 1980s. In 1992 he fled his homeland and has lived in exile in France ever since. In 2002 he was awarded the Grand Prix littéraire d'Afrique noire, a major literary prize in Africa for francophone writing, for his book “La fabrique des cérémonies” (Factory of Ceremonies, Éditions du Seuil, Paris, 2001). Later, in 2013, his book “The Shadow of Things to Come” (Seagull Books, London) became available in bookstores. Stageplays authored by him have also been performed at festivals in Africa and Europe. Throughout his work the contemplation on the pan-African Négritude-movement became a focus point. Additional awards Efoui received include the Grand Prix Tchicaya U Tam’si and the Prix du Nouveau Talent Radio de la SACD.
