Claribel Alegría, born 1924 in Estelí, Nicaragua, died 2018 in Managua, was a Nicaraguan writer. She wrote numerous volumes of poetry, short stories, books for young people and novels. Her work has been translated into 14 languages. Together with her husband, the US writer Darwin J. Flakoll, she translated Miguel Ángel Asturias into English and Naom Chomsky and Salmon Rushdie into Spanish, among others.
