Slavenka Drakulić


Slavenka Drakulić, born 1949 in Rijeka, is one of the most recognized authors of Croatia. For her book "They Would Never Hurt a fly" (Abacus Books, Columbus, 2004), which deals with the war crimes committed during the Yugoslaw wars, she was honored with the Leipziger Buchpreis zur Europäischen Verständigung in 2005. In May 2018, her novel "Mileva Einstein oder Die Theorie der Einsamkeit" was published (Aufbau, Berlin). Her essays have been widely published throughout the world, among others in the New York Times, the Guardian, the New Republic und Süddeutsche Zeitung. Drakulić lives in Sweden, Austria and Croatia.
