Yes! When I teach creative writing I don't teach students how to write. Writing is personal: I teach is to read critically and comprehensively. I teach people to read literature from different parts of the globe and relate it to their lives. Every book opens up a new world and allows deeper understanding about the world we live in, regardless of where it is set. That is the value of reading and writing. You open up parts of yourself that you didn't know existed.
