Can football be apolitical?

Sport is a cross-section of society and therefore it is automatically political. Anyone who says otherwise is not really paying attention.

After all, bad things happen in football all the time: In England, black players are racially insulted because they miss their penalties at the European Championship, and people have been dying for years because of the World Cup in Qatar.

It is therefore no longer enough to simply take the “no-racism” jersey out of the cupboard every now and then. The structures of sport must change.
